New Drop-off for Glass Opens

Good news! Jackson is again home to a drop-off site for folks wanting to recycle glass. Glass bottles can be taken to 841 Palmyra St, a collection site owned by the city’s recycling company, Global Plastic Recyclers.

This site is less than 3 miles from Rainbow Grocery, which was formerly the glass collection site in Jackson. Recycling of glass had become so popular that it had outgrown Rainbow’s collection bins.

The Palmyra site is open for glass 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also drop off other recyclables there, such as newspaper, cardboard, plastic and aluminum. The recycling of non-glass is available only when Global Plastic Recyclers’ building is open, which is  7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Non-glass recyclables do not have to be sorted, but glass must be separated and deposited in the proper containers.

Kudos to Rainbow Grocery, Global Plastic Recyclers, City of Jackson and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality for finding a spot so metro-area residents can recycle glass!
