USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service has dedicated $1.2 million to clean up three creeks in Mississippi, including Ashlog Creek, which eventually sends its waters into the Reservoir. This funding is part of NRCS’ National Water Quality Initiative. This money is given in the form of financial assistance to farmers, ranchers and forest landowners wanting to make environmental friendly improvements to their properties. This financial assistance reduces the runoff of nutrients (fertilizers, manure, etc.) and sediments (eroded soil) that enter Ashlog Creek. Too many nutrients and sediments impair waterways.
