Reservoir leader to be honored by Mississippi Wildlife Federation

The Ross Barnett Reservoir’s top official will be honored in February for his commitment to conserving natural resources. The Mississippi Wildlife Federation named John Sigman its Soil, Water and Air Conservationist of the Year.

Sigman has served as the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District’s executive director for three years. He was instrumental in creating Keep the Rez Beautiful and the Barnett Reservoir Foundation, two organizations that work with the District to improve the quality of life and environment of the 33,000-acre lake and its shorelines.

Keep the Rez Beautiful nominated Sigman for the award, citing several joint projects between the nonprofit and the District.  Under his leadership, the District has given immense support to KRB in establishing a wildlife sanctuary, cleaning litter and promoting recycling.

Sigman will receive the award at MWF’s annual banquet next month. This is the second year in a row that a Reservoir-area group or individual has received this prestigious award. KRB received this award last year.
