A Northwest Rankin High School senior is working with Keep the Rez Beautiful to encourage boaters to dispose of waste responsibly. Dao Lu is volunteering with KRB and has adopted one of the organization’s “boat ‘n tote” bag stands. The “boat ‘n tote” bags are used to encourage boaters and fishermen to carry their waste back to shore and dispose of properly.

Lu has adopted the bag stand at Pelahatchie Shore Park, where she visits every two weeks to ensure the stand is fully stocked. The “boat ‘n tote” campaign was started in 2011 as a way to solve a litter problem in and around the Reservoir. Big thanks to our partners in this effort, including Nucor Steel Jackson, Inc., Keep Mississippi Beautiful and Pearl River Valley Water Supply District.

“We are thankful for Dao’s efforts in keeping this stand stocked with bags, making it easier for people using the Reservoir to dispose of trash responsibly,” KRB Executive Director Jeannine May. “We welcome other high school students looking for volunteers. We have plenty of work that needs to be done!”

Nucor Steel Jackson, Inc. provided KRB with the stands composed of recycled steel.
