Reservoir officials reduce outflow at dam

River level at Jackson should begin falling immediately

Pearl River Valley Water Supply District officials began reducing outflows from the Barnett Reservoir dam Friday morning, and a fall in the Pearl River at the Jackson gauge was expected to follow.

While heavy rains fell in the basin on Thursday, the total amount was less than anticipated. Inflows into Barnett Reservoir were also less than forecasted.

At 9 a.m. Friday, Barnett Reservoir stood at 295.73 and was on a slow fall, with an outflow of 30,500 cubic feet per second (cfs). A gradual reduction in outflow began at 9:30 a.m., with a target release of about 25,000 cfs by 5 p.m. PRVWSD officials said the lake would begin rising.
