Lower Spillway and Rez opening

I hope all of you and your loved ones and friends are well.  It has been one of the most challenging times in our lives that we will never forget,  and we WILL adjust and MOVE  forward with our Fathers Grace. I accepted the challenge from Susan Brashear, PRVWSD Deputy Director  yesterday to help out at the Lower Spillway and Rez opening this morning… possibly to see if we could deter littering after being closed for a while. Our PRVWSD is working without a full staff. I was a little hesitant but decided to go ahead and try.   Leigh Anne and Laurie accepted the challenge and we stayed apart , encouraged all the many fishermen and onlookers who showed up to help us Keep the Pearl and Rez Clean.  We were there early and stayed till 3.  We provided ( Self Serve) our TRASH stickers , netted bags and  over 400 trash bags.  The fishermen and others were so appreciative and encouraged others to stay apart! They want to keep it open!!! We all do!  We may try it a few more times this week.   In the meantime, stay safe, keep the faith… until we meet again.

Environmental Workshop Offered for Educators

 Project Earth/H2O for CEUs environmental educational workshop will be offered to educators as well as other individuals desiring to earn Continuing Education Units.  Participants will earn 2.5 CEUs during the three day, hands-on workshop being held Monday, June 8th – Wednesday, June 10th  2020.  The workshop is subject to rescheduling or cancellation if necessary due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the three day workshop activities, a field trip and speakers are utilized to teach about water, soil, wildlife, horticulture therapy, recycling, agriculture, urban ecology, forestry and other natural resource subject areas.  Experts from local, state and federal agencies, conservation organizations, local agriculture producers and other guest speakers will conduct presentations and provide resource materials.  If you enjoy the outdoors and conservation this is a fun, three day workshop aimed at supplementing your curriculum no matter what subject area you teach.

The cost of the workshop is $60 (a refund will be issue if the workshop is cancelled due to COVID19) and includes all course materials, meals and CEUs.  Workshop hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  The workshop will be held at Bridlewood Event Center in Madison, MS and the Agriculture and Forestry Museum in Jackson, MS.  For more information or to register contact Celia Miller at the Soil and Water Conservation District- (601-859-4272 Ext. 3) or email at celia.miller@ms.nacdnet.net  Deadline for registration is May 29th, 2020.

Keep The Rez Beautiful E-electronics Recycling Day the BEST EVER!

Nov. 9th E electronics Recycle Day was the best yet…It was our 6th year in celebrating Keep America Beautiful’s America’s Recycle Day!
And the total was: 8,491 lbs!!! The largest amount ever collected to date!

Thank you Chris Lumaghini – Magnolia Date Solutions for partnering with us once again! The breakdown on donations are: 45 TV’s, 30 Monitors, 1 laptop and a few other items. The KRB Team wants to thank everyone for donating and Chris and his Team of guys who are awesome! . It’s a fun event and all of these items will be recycled and won’t go to the landfills!

I am so glad you asked us to participate in your event again this year. I am glad to report that by far this was our most successful collection to date. All the work you and your team did and continues to do clearly is showing in these numbers. I live at the reservoir so I am definitely grateful as a business partner but also because I am a resident who gets to enjoy your work efforts!

E-Electronics Recycling Day, Saturday, November 9

Oct. 14, 2019 …Brandon, Miss. Keep the Reservoir (Rez) Beautiful will be hosting an electronics-recycling day on Saturday, November 9 from 8:30 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. in the Revell Ace Hardware parking lot, 1919 Spillway Road, Reservoir area, 39047. Keep the Rez Beautiful is celebrating Keep America Beautiful’s America’s Recycle Day.

KRB will be partnering again with Magnolia Data Solutions and will be accepting all unwanted electronics. Bring any unwanted electronics and lighten the electronic waste from your home or office and recycle in an environmentally friendly and secure way! Acceptable items include: computers, all computer components, desktop copiers, fax machines, radios, televisions, cell phones, desk phones, VCR players, DVD players, electronic games, monitors, keyboards, printers, laptops, scanners, stereos/radios/UPS. (Will accept ALL electronics)

***** THERE IS A $5 CHARGE PER MONITOR $15 CHARGE PER TELEVISION.

This charge covers the cost incurred by Magnolia Data Solutions from recycling these items properly and in keeping with EPA requirements (i.e. shipping and weight for CRT tubes.) All items collected are properly recycled at Magnolia Data Solutions. Magnolia Data Solutions is Mississippi’s only CERTIFIED and largest electronic recycler processing over 1.5 million pounds of e-WASTE per year.

Everyone who donates will received free 9 volt batteries for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
